The rise of Aloe Vera consumption in Japan

Aloe Vera is one of many ancient plants that plays an important role in medicine. The word “aloe vera” comes from the Arabic word “Alloeh,” which means “bright and bitter.” It can only thrive in hot, dry climates. It is used to treat pathogenic bacteria, gram-positive bacteria, immune stimulants, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory bacteria, among others. People in Japan take aloe vera as a dietary supplement with clove powder to improve the growth performance of Japanese Quails by increasing hemoglobin levels, white blood cells, and intestinal health. Another popular application nowadays is to protect skin from allergies and UV rays. It is used to improve skin barrier function, moisture, and elasticity in photo protected skin in Japan.

Japanese people also use Aloe Vera in eating products recipes like in smoothies, drinks and salsas. Aloe vera has many health advantages like it reduce blood sugar level, suppress inflammatory signals, reduce dental plaque, may boost memory, improve digestive health, promotes oral health, clears acne, and is rich in antioxidants.

If we look at the entire aloe vera gel market, we can see that total revenue was $120 million in 2005 and is expected to reach $160 billion by 2020. Due to its increased effectiveness in treating various diseases such as ulcers, heart ailments, cholesterol, and general well-being, its demand in Japan and other developed countries such as Germany has increased significantly.
